We are almost halfway through the first round of the 2000’s Horror Movies Tournament. While Cloverfield is still battling 28 Days Later, we bring you a new versus – Scream 3 and 1408.
Scream 3 (2000)
In the end of the trilogy, Sidney tries to discover in which order the new killer planned his assassinations. Set in Hollywood, where the “Stab 3” is being shot, the trio comes back for a “last” scream.
The third installment had an increase in budget over the past two movies (40 million dollars), and did well at the box office (+161 million). However, the tumultuous production was not received with open arms by the critics. This is also considered the worst Scream movie by most of the fans.
Scream 3 needs to defeat 1408 if it wants to go further in the competition. In this movie, the protagonist is a sort of a paranormal activity debunker and writer. Soon he finds out that the room 1408 of an hotel may not be as a fake story as he thinks. Yes, this is based of a Stephen King’s book with the same name, although none of the three alternative endings match the author’s one.
The movie got ok reviews. The average rating is around 6 or 7 out of 10. As its competitor in this versus match, 1408 also was a box office success (133 million dollars with a budget of 25).
